How sourcing works

What the data shows

  1. 1

On 31 Oct 2026, 100 of the 100 employers with open roles publish enough to read how they screen: posting texts for 1,150 roles at 100 employers (100.0% of open roles) and application forms for 771 roles at 83 (67.0%).

    Figure 1
  2. 2

Of the 1,150 postings that can be read, 11.3% mention at least one hiring step (a test, an interview or a check); the most common is a live interview or one whose format is not stated (5.9%), followed by a background check (5.2%), and 5.4% mention a background check or ID verification.

    Figure 2
  3. 3

54.3% of readable postings ask applicants to prove a qualification: 54.3% name a licence, certificate or professional credential, and 0.1% want a portfolio or samples of past work.

    Figure 2
  4. 4

Base: Every role open on 31 Oct 2026 at the 100 employers RobotTraining.jobs tracks (1,150 in all), with the full posting text read for 1,150 and the application form for 771.

Each share is out of that employer's own open roles. Some employers' boards carry the full posting text, others expose the application form through their hiring software, and some offer neither; the tables below compare an employer only on what it actually publishes.

Posting texts and forms are read on the same day the open roles are counted.

All rows carry a small-sample mark and none is ranked: they vary no more than chance would make them vary, so no single row stands on its own.

A step is counted when the posting mentions it, whether as a requirement or as a possibility ('you may be asked to complete a short trial task'). Employers often check more than they write down, so each share here is a minimum, not the full picture.

Tests, interviews and checks are only looked for where a posting talks about applying and being selected (a section on the hiring process, or a sentence about applicants, candidates or onboarding). That way a duty such as 'run safety assessments on the robot' or 'record interviews with participants' is not mistaken for a hiring step. The requirements report counts every mention anywhere in the text, so its shares run higher.

Recorded, video and AI-run interviews get a line of their own; a posting that adds a second interview ('a recorded video screen, then a call with the operations lead') counts on both lines. A licence or certificate (a driver's license, a CDL, an FAA Part 107 drone certificate, a pilot license or a professional licence) and a portfolio or samples of past work are proof of qualification, read from anywhere in the posting.

TSMG accounts for 43.7% of the described roles, so the pooled shares mostly reflect how it hires; the per-employer table shows each employer apart.

Employers without published posting texts cannot be read, so they are left out of this table.

A step column gives the share of that employer's readable postings that mention the step.

None of the rows with described roles carries a small-sample mark: they vary so widely that each one stands on its own from the first.

Employers tend to reuse one boilerplate block about their hiring process across postings, so an employer's share usually reflects that block, not a decision made for each job.

A step is counted when the posting mentions it, whether as a requirement or as a possibility ('you may be asked to complete a short trial task'). Employers often check more than they write down, so each share here is a minimum, not the full picture.

Each kind's row combines every employer with readable postings. 'From one employer' is the share of the kind's postings that come from its biggest employer; close to 100% means the row mostly shows how that single employer hires.

A row with under 2.1 roles read carries a small-sample mark and is left unranked: under that count, the average across all rows says more than the row's own roles read do (a weight fitted on the counts themselves).

Required means the form refuses to send without it. Name and email appear on every form, so they are left off the list.

Work authorization, availability and pay come from the wording of the extra questions an employer puts on its form (the question themes of the applications report). Pay includes questions that ask for a desired rate as well as questions that ask the applicant to agree to the offered one.

TSMG accounts for 65.2% of the forms, so the pooled shares mostly reflect how it hires; the per-employer table shows each employer apart.

Only employers whose forms can be read appear in this table.

The work authorization, availability and pay columns give the share of forms where a question on that topic is compulsory.

An employer's medians need at least 3 forms read, the smallest number a middle value is given for; employers with fewer are flagged as a small sample and left unranked. One employer's forms are usually built from a single template, so its medians describe that template.

A cell shows the share of that employer's forms with one or more questions on the topic; a single question can fall under several topics.

Questions about where the applicant found the job, and optional equal-opportunity questions, are excluded because they play no part in selection.

None of the rows with forms read carries a small-sample mark: they vary so widely that each one stands on its own from the first.

Each kind's row combines every employer whose forms can be read. 'From one employer' is the share of the kind's forms that come from its biggest employer; close to 100% means the row mostly shows that one employer's form.

A kind's medians need at least 3 forms read, the smallest number a middle value is given for; kinds with fewer are flagged as a small sample.

Buy the data behind this report

This report sums up records we gather ourselves, day after day:

  • 1,432 robot training roles followed, history included

Every role on 100 employer job boards, read each day since 12 Sep 2026: its pay, its place, and the first and last day it was up.

  • 536 apply clicks over 28 days

Which robot training roles people really apply to, by kind of work, pay and place. The clicks happen here, so no one else can count them.

  • 25 sourced industry datasets

Funding, revenue, deals, fleets, deployments and prices across the robot training industry, each record linked to the publication it comes from.

On offer

  • The raw records

Every robot training role we track: title, employer, place, kind of work, pay as stated, and the days it was first and last open.

  • A regular feed

New and closed roles every week or month, as file drops or through the data endpoints.

  • A custom cut

Any figure here by country, city, kind of work, vehicle, employer or date, or your own hiring benchmarked against the market.

Need the people behind this data for your own robots? (you contract them yourself) or (we deliver the robot data).

Investing in robotics, AV or robot-data companies? The Robot hiring radar is these records role by role, every day, as files.

Robot hiring brief: free, once a month

The robot-training job market in figures, on the first weekday of each month: open roles, what opened and closed, who added and who cut, and posted pay by kind of work. To your work email.

How it was measured

Two daily reads of the robot training employers' own boards: each open role's full description, where the board publishes it, and its application form, where the employer's applicant-tracking system (Greenhouse, Ashby, Lever, Workable, Teamtailor and others) can be read. A single database query produces each figure for the window shown, and the live page and every monthly edition run that identical query. The note under each figure gives its base.

Screening step
One of seven checks a description can name: a test, assessment or trial task; an AI-led or recorded interview; an interview with a person, or of a kind not stated; a background check; identity verification (these five are selection steps); a licence, certificate or professional credential; work samples, a portfolio or a publication record (these two are proof of qualification). A step counts when the description names it, whether as a requirement or as something that may be asked.
Selection passage
The part of a description about applying and being chosen: a section headed as the process ('Process', 'Application steps', 'What to expect'), a sentence about applying, onboarding, screening or selection (and the sentence after it), or a sentence addressed to applicants outside the sections that describe the work or its qualifications. The five selection steps are read only there, with the requirements report's patterns plus a few documented additions, so 'test autonomy software' or 'interview riders' in the duties does not count as a check.
Proof of qualification
A licence or credential the description names (a driver's license, a CDL, an FAA Part 107 certificate, a pilot license, a professional certification), or work the applicant has to show: samples, a portfolio or reel, a verifiable profile or a publication record. Read from the whole description, required or preferred.
Screening depth
How many of the seven steps a description names, given as a median and as the portion of roles naming two or more.
Form burden
How many fields an application form will not send without, from name and email through to the last required screening question.
Required
The form cannot be sent until this field is filled in.
Question theme
What an employer's own form question is about (work authorization, availability, pay, degree, experience, languages, a licence, earlier robotics, teleoperation or driving work, a driving record, shifts, physical demands, a background check, age), read from its label with the applications report's documented patterns. The pay theme covers both an expected rate and accepting the stated one.
Coverage
An employer's board either publishes full descriptions or exposes its application form, some do both and some neither. Each figure names the employers and the portion of open roles it reads, and an employer is only compared on the source it publishes.
Open role
On a given day, a role that has been posted and still shows in the employer's feed.
Kind of work
A role's title and description place it in one of the seven kinds of robot training work this site follows, ranging from robot teleoperation and demonstration collection through egocentric capture, embodied-AI annotation, robot evaluation and fleet operations to AV and drone operation. Each kind has a page of its own.
Window
Live page: the roles open at the end of the 28 most recent full days (UTC). Edition: the roles open at the end of a single calendar month.

Limits of this data

  • Named, not observed: an employer can screen more than its descriptions say, so every portion is a floor, and pass rates are not published, so nothing here says how selective a step is.
  • The employers that publish descriptions are not the ones whose forms can be read, and a few publish neither; the coverage figure lists which is which.
  • Large employers often reuse one description and one form across cities, so an employer's figure can reflect a single template, and pooled portions lean on the employers with the most open roles.
  • Only the first application form is read. Tests, road tests and interviews that follow on an employer's own site show up only when the description names them.
  • An oddly worded step can be missed, and a step named inside a section that describes the work, without a word about applying, is not counted.
  • Hiring that happens off public job boards is invisible here, and some data-collection programs sign people up inside an app instead of posting a job.
  • A posting does not equal a hire. Certain employers leave evergreen roles up for months, and others post the same role once per city or country.

Collection and classification of listings are explained on the methodology page. Freshness, completeness and consistency are tested daily in the data quality report.

Monthly editions

The live page spans the 28 most recent full days and updates daily. Every finished month also gets its own edition, locked two days after month end, so a number quoted from it stays fixed.

  • Live page28 most recent full days, rebuilt daily
