Is Serve Robotics a good place to work?

Researched October 2026 · 17 sources

Mostly. Serve hires its field crews as its own hourly staff in several US cities, but the work is physical, many jobs are part time with no benefits, reviews are few and mixed, and the company loses money as it ends its Uber Eats deal. The street job means walking or biking miles a shift in any weather, nights, weekends and holidays, often part time without benefits. Serve is losing money and ending its Uber Eats deal, so hours in a given city can change. It pays $22–$25/hr in most of its live listings (median $22/hr).

Who is behind it

Serve Robotics Inc. (Nasdaq: SERV) runs sidewalk delivery robots. It began in 2017 as Postmates' robot team, was spun out of Uber in 2021 under CEO Ali Kashani and listed on Nasdaq in 2024. At the end of 2025 it had over 2,000 robots and 380 staff (49% in operations, none in a union); one remote supervisor oversees several deliveries at once. In Q2 2026 it lost $64.1 million on $3.2 million of revenue, with $240 million in cash.

Getting paid

Field staff are hourly employees; each posting states its rate, and some full-time ones add equity. Indeed's salary data (it counts job ads too) averages $21.91/hr for Operations Associates (37 reports) and $24.00 for coordinators (11). Part-timers get no benefits, and a 2025 Indeed answer said the 401(k) had no match yet.

Who can join

On-site in the cities where its robots deliver, among them Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, Atlanta and Chicago; it also posts service technician roles abroad. Not a work-from-home role.

What people praise

  • A shift supervisor in Miami (Indeed, February 2026, 5 stars) called the supervisors supportive and said the company gives you what the job needs, though not every schedule is a good one.
  • A field agent in Los Angeles (Glassdoor, May 2025, 4 stars) named the benefits as a strength; other Glassdoor reviewers praise coworkers, paid time off and stock, and one says promotion can come fast.
  • An Indeed reviewer (4 stars) described a relaxed job with good coworkers and easygoing supervisors, but said moving up means taking on the less pleasant tasks.

What people complain about

  • The same Los Angeles field agent said shifts go by seniority: new hires work only nights for about two months after training, days off are fixed, part-timers get no benefits and you use your own phone.
  • A former operations employee of 3+ years (Glassdoor, October 2025, 2 stars) cited zero work-life balance, favoritism, odd hours and weak HR; coordinators report heavy overtime that does not always feel optional.
  • Indeed reviewers rate pay and benefits 2.5/5 and job security and advancement 2.5/5; one saw no growth path and expected the job to be a short stop.

What has gone wrong

  • September 2025. On Sept. 12, 2025, a Serve robot in West Hollywood kept swerving into the path of Mark Chaney, a disability advocate on a mobility scooter, and hit him; his video passed 26 million views. Serve said its robots are built to navigate around mobility devices and that the robot stopped when it sensed him. Another Serve robot was filmed blocking an LAFD truck in Hollywood.
  • March 2026. In late March 2026 a Serve robot crashed through a CTA bus shelter at Grand and Racine in Chicago's West Town; Serve said it would pay for repairs. A local alderman refused to let the robots expand beyond his part of the 1st Ward, a petition against them passed 3,700 signatures, and the city pilot runs until May 2027.
  • August 2026. After Uber Eats volume fell, Serve cut its 2026 revenue forecast from $26 million to $9 to 10 million, named headcount controls among its cost cuts and said it does not expect to renew the Uber Eats deal when it ends in early 2027; Uber sold its whole stake. Serve added Grubhub and took DoorDash to San Jose and Washington, DC.
Who it suits

Best for: People in Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, Atlanta, Chicago or San Jose with a driver's license who like working outdoors, can lift 50 lb and walk or bike miles a shift, and want an hourly first job in robotics. Not for: Anyone who needs work from home (field jobs are on the street and remote supervision openings are rare and still involve depot work), fixed daytime hours, benefits on a part-time job, or a long-term role.

How to get started on Serve Robotics

Researched September 2026

Apply on Serve Robotics' Ashby careers board to an Operations Associate opening (full-time or part-time) in a city where its sidewalk robots deliver, pass a recruiter screen and an operations interview focused on reliability, customer contact and following procedures, and if hired you start as an hourly Serve employee who keeps the delivery robots deployed, cleaned, charged and moving on the street.

Who can join

  • Available to work on-site in the city named on the posting. Serve's Operations Associate postings say its fleet makes commercial deliveries in Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, Atlanta and Chicago, and it posts openings city by city (on 28 Oct 2026 its board also had a part-time posting in San Jose).
  • A valid driver's license and comfort driving mid-size utility vehicles, because the job includes moving, recovering and repositioning robots in company vehicles or on e-bikes.
  • Able to lift and maneuver items up to 50 pounds, walk or bike several miles a day, and work outdoors in all weather, wearing the required high-visibility vest and safe footwear.
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays, as operations require, and able to deal with customers in a professional way.
  • No degree or robotics background is required. A year of last-mile delivery, robotics or customer-facing experience, and familiarity with Jira and Slack, are listed only as preferred.

Step by step

  1. 1

Find an Operations Associate opening on Serve's Ashby board

Go to jobs.ashbyhq.com/serverobotics (linked from serverobotics.com/careers) and look under the Operations department for your city. Openings are posted per city and per neighborhood, some full-time and some part-time, and they open and close as the fleet grows, so check the board itself rather than a copy on a job aggregator.

  2. 2

    Apply directly through Ashby

Submit your resume and answer the posting's questions on Serve's own Ashby form. Apply on Serve's board, not through a paid recruiter or fast-track service; there is no shortcut into these roles.

  3. 3

    Recruiter screen

Expect the basics to be checked first: your city, your availability for nights, weekends and holidays, a valid driver's license and whether you can meet the physical demands. Serve does not publish the specifics of this stage.

  4. 4

    Interview with the operations team

Candidates report one or more interviews after the screen. In September 2026 Glassdoor rated Serve's interviews about 2.82 out of 5 for difficulty across all its job titles, with reports ranging from quick, easy rounds to a few abrupt ones. For this role, expect questions on reliability, customer-facing problem solving and following standard procedures rather than a technical test.

  5. 5

Offer and training on the job

If hired you join Serve as an hourly employee and learn its standard operating procedures for deploying, inspecting, cleaning and recovering robots, logging incidents in escalation tickets and driving company vehicles. Serve does not publish how long this training lasts.

How long it takes

Serve does not publish a hiring timeline. In September 2026 Glassdoor showed an average process of about 10 days, from 11 interview reports across all Serve job titles. Treat that as a rough estimate for the company, not a figure for this role; timing depends on the city and on whether the team is hiring.

When you get paid

Operations Associates are paid by the hour as Serve employees, and each posting states its own hourly rate; some full-time postings also mention equity. The rates in Serve's open postings today are on this page, read from Serve's board each day. Confirm the rate, the hours and whether the opening is full-time or part-time before accepting.

Tips to get accepted

  • Apply directly on Serve's Ashby board, never through a paid recruiter or fast-track service. There is no legitimate shortcut into these roles.
  • Read the posting's title for the hours: part-time openings say Part Time in the title and name the neighborhood (for example West LA or Fulton Market District, Chicago), so you can apply to the depot closest to you.
  • Lead with reliability and shift flexibility. Real-time fleet work depends on people showing up, and the posting names nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Make sure your driver's license is valid and be candid about the physical side (lifting up to 50 pounds, walking or biking several miles, all weather). It is a real requirement, not boilerplate.

What isn't public

  • Serve does not publish its interview stages, questions or any formal pre-hire assessment. The interview difficulty and timeline figures here come from Glassdoor across all Serve job titles, as read in September 2026, not from this role.
  • Individual posting URLs change as openings open and close by city, so a specific job link may stop working. The lasting entry point is the Ashby board at jobs.ashbyhq.com/serverobotics.
  • Serve does not publish details of any background check, driving-record check or driving test, although a valid license and safe driving are required.
  • Serve does not publish the length or structure of its training, or the performance measures used after hire.
