How to get the FAA Part 107 certificate

31 of these jobs require the FAA's Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, read from each posting. It is a knowledge test, not a flying test, open to anyone 16 or older.

  1. Create a profile in the FAA's IACRA system to get your FAA Tracking Number.
  2. Book the Unmanned Aircraft General (UAG) knowledge test at an FAA-approved testing center run by PSI. It costs about $175.
  3. Pass it: 60 multiple-choice questions in two hours, with 70% needed to pass.
  4. Apply for the certificate in IACRA with your test result. After a TSA security check you can print a temporary certificate while the card is mailed.

Do you need a Part 107 license for drone delivery jobs?

For most of them, yes. The postings for Prime Air's Flight Monitor, Zipline's Flight Test Operator and Fleet Commander, Wing's sUAS Flight Operator and DoorDash Air's flight test and ground support jobs require an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate. Prime Air's Ground Handler lists it as preferred, and Zipline's Ground Test Operator does not ask for it.

Can you get a drone delivery job without experience?

Some, yes. Prime Air's Ground Handler asks for a high school diploma and a driver's license, DoorDash Air's Ground Support Operator takes a Part 107 holder with no drone experience, and Zipline's Ground Test Operator asks for experience with forklifts or other heavy equipment rather than flying. The pilot jobs ask for more: Wing's asks for 3 years of drone operations or civil aviation training, and DoorDash Air's flight test job for 100 logged flight hours.

Is Walmart hiring drone delivery pilots?

Walmart's drone deliveries are flown by its partners, not by Walmart staff. Wing says it is on its way to delivering from more than 270 Walmart stores in nearly 20 US metros, with Denver and Seattle due in 2027 (October 5, 2026), and Zipline has delivered for Walmart from Pea Ridge, Arkansas since 2021 and announced Dallas-Fort Worth stores in January 2024. So the jobs are posted by Wing and Zipline, and theirs are listed on this page.

What are the shifts like?

Expect shift work outdoors. Prime Air's postings describe shifts of up to 12 hours, nights, weekends and holidays included; Zipline's test jobs ask for weekends, nights and overnight shifts; Wing's runs on a rotating 7-day schedule; DoorDash Air's test team works early or variable hours.
