Robot Teleoperation

36 open

Remotely pilot a physical robot, through a VR headset, a leader-follower arm, a joystick, or a haptic rig, so its motions become training demonstrations, or step in to guide an autonomous robot when it stalls. This is one entry point into robot training: humanoid labs run teleoperation shifts around the clock, and gaming or VR familiarity often matters more than a degree.

Data & Demonstration Collection

8 open

Produce the physical demonstrations a robot learns from directly: teleoperated demos, kinesthetic teaching (guiding the robot's arms by hand), bimanual ALOHA-style rigs, and provided-hardware capture. On-site studio operators are the backbone of every humanoid data engine, and the work needs dexterity and consistency rather than a technical background.

Robot Task Evaluation & QA

4 open

Run trained policies on real robots and score success or failure, review collected demos for acceptance, and red-team embodied systems for unsafe behavior. Often folded into senior-operator and data-ops titles, and the tier where domain judgment (a trade skill, a clinical or industrial background) starts to command a real premium over volume work.

Robot Fleet Operations

10 open

Keep deployed robots running in the real world: remotely monitor and teleassist delivery and service robots when they get stuck, and work on-street as an attendant who retrieves, resets, and recharges units. Interventions may supply edge cases for further evaluation and training, and the work splits between remote-from-home monitoring and in-city on-site shifts.

AV & Drone Operators

2 open

Operate autonomous vehicles and drones as a human in the loop: in-vehicle safety drivers and remote AV operators who monitor, intervene, and generate the edge-case data self-driving systems train on, and Part 107 drone pilots flying data-collection missions. A large, established on-ramp into embodied-AI work with test fleets hiring in specific cities.

Before you apply

Teleoperation describes how you control the robot, not where you work: most of these roles are on site, in a lab, a warehouse or a customer facility. Check the shift pattern, the physical demands and who employs you (some roles go through a staffing partner) on each posting. Applying to any job here costs nothing, and no real employer will ask you to pay.

Robot operator jobs by city

Where these roles are based. Each city page lists every robot job there, with who is hiring and the pay the postings state.

What to check before you apply

The job title alone does not tell you the shift, the physical demands or the experience needed. Two employer postings show how the work differs.

Operating a humanoid on site

Figure's morning-shift operator posting involves running humanoids, documenting failures and following safety procedures. It asks for robot or mechanical troubleshooting experience, extended standing and equipment handling. Check the shift pattern and physical requirements before applying.

Teleoperation and data collection

TSMG's San Francisco posting combines controller-based robot operation, monitoring and data recording. Its required skills include coordination, concentration and basic computer use; robotics and gaming experience are preferred. Despite controlling robots remotely, the job is listed as on-site.

Examples checked September 13, 2026. Requirements can change; the employer's current posting takes precedence.

Experience

Separate required skills from preferred ones. Training offered by an employer does not automatically mean a role accepts applicants with no experience.

Pay and hours

Compare hourly rates with hourly rates. Check contract status, expected hours, shift schedules and any benefits before comparing an annual salary with a contract rate.

Location

Confirm the work site, travel expectations and work authorization. A remote-control interface does not remove the need to attend a lab or customer site.

Frequently asked questions

What does a robot operator do?

It depends on the employer. On site, a robot operator runs humanoids or robot arms through tasks, documents failures and follows safety procedures: Figure's morning-shift operator posting describes exactly that. In teleoperation and data collection, you control a robot with controllers while it records what you do, and monitor and log each run, as TSMG's San Francisco posting describes. Each listing states its own duties.

Is robot operator work remote?

Rarely. Of the 110 robot operator roles open today, 0 are listed as remote. Teleoperation describes how you control the robot; it does not mean you can work from home, because the robots, the rigs and the safety staff are in a lab or a warehouse.

How do you become a robot operator?

Start with the kind of operator job you can reach: piloting robots through a VR headset or controllers so they learn a task (mostly on site at a lab or warehouse), running robots at a customer's site, or safety driving a self-driving car, which needs a clean driving licence. Then apply on the employer's own job board, linked from each job here. Most postings ask for reliability over long shifts, comfort with hardware and the stamina to stand and lift rather than a degree; the robot teleoperation guide walks through the first steps, and the entry-level robotics jobs page lists the roles open to beginners.

Do you need experience to become a robot operator?

Often not much. 22 of today's robot operator postings say they train you or need no prior experience. Separate required skills from preferred ones: training offered by an employer does not automatically mean a role accepts applicants with no experience, and some on-site roles ask for robot or mechanical troubleshooting experience. See the entry-level robotics jobs page for what employers ask for instead of a degree.

What is the hourly pay for robot operators?

Typical pay in these listings runs $25 to $35 an hour, with a median of $30 (33 distinct advertised rates from 14 employers, refreshed daily). Many listings state no rate, so compare hourly with hourly and check shifts, contract status and benefits. Advertised pay is not guaranteed earnings.

Who hires robot operators?

27 employers have open robot operator roles right now, including TSMG, Dyna Robotics and Figure AI: humanoid and robot makers, robot labs and the data-collection programs that supply them. The table above lists every one with the pay its listings state.
