Base: Open roles at close of 31 Oct 2026: 1,150. Their compensation text gives a pay figure in 405 cases.

Source: the compensation line printed on each posting. Whichever unit the line mentions first sets the row ('/hr', 'per task', 'fixed', 'per year'). A line with an amount but no unit, such as '$400', goes in the no-unit row.

'Fixed' means one price covers the whole job. For how many roles list an hourly rate, and at what level, see the pay transparency report.

We take '$' to mean US dollars, since that is the currency the boards use it for. A written code such as 'EUR 31850 per year' is taken at its word. Amounts in any other currency stay as they are: none is converted, and none joins the US dollar rates.

Base: 405 roles with a pay figure, open at close of 31 Oct 2026, grouped under the employer posting them. Each share uses that employer's roles with a figure as its base.

Range means two amounts that differ, as in '$40 to $75/hr'. Single figure means one amount ('$65 per hour'), or a range with the same number at both ends. Up to gives just the top ('up to $31/hr') and leaves out what most people actually earn. From gives just the bottom ('$30+/hr').

An employer with no pay figure on any role gets no row of its own; its roles still count toward 'All employers'.

None of the rows with roles quoting a figure carries a small-sample mark: they vary so widely that each one stands on its own from the first.

Base: 1,150 roles were open at close of 31 Oct 2026. In 967 of them, the board's own field names an employment type.

Taken from the employment-type field on each board and put into common terms. 'Freelance-Remote' and 'Independent Contractor - Project Based' both become freelance; 'FullTime' and 'Full Time' both become full-time. If the field holds no engagement type at all ('Remote'), the role is filed as not stated.

A few boards give a pay basis or a time commitment (hourly, part-time, full-time) instead of a contract form, and full-time may mean a full-time contract or actual employment. The requirements report covers contractor and full-time wording inside descriptions.

That covers 100.0% of all open roles.

We count a schedule only if the description links it to money ('paid weekly via Stripe', 'weekly pay'). A 'weekly sync' or 'weekly commitment' is not a schedule. A service counts only next to a pay word ('paid via', 'payouts through'), so a PayPal account requested as data to share does not count.

Rows at zero stay in the table, so a service that no description mentions shows as none.

That covers 100.0% of all open roles.

Paid by the task or piece delivered: the description ties pay to each task, submission or asset (usually one that passes review, gets accepted or meets the project's specifications), or calls compensation output-based or task-based. These roles can still show an hourly figure, as a guide to what the tasks work out to.

A bonus is counted when the description offers one: a referral, quality, milestone, speed or sign-on bonus, performance incentives, or surge pay. A phrase like 'a second language is a bonus' is not. Nor is 'no unpaid assessment' read as an unpaid assessment.

Per-task rates

When robot training roles pay by the task, how much is each task worth?

Base: 0 roles, open at close of 31 Oct 2026, that state a per-task rate in US dollars in their compensation text.

One value per role: the midpoint of its range. A median is shown only from 3 roles up, and 'up to' amounts are dropped.

Tasks run from a few minutes to a full working day. These roles' own descriptions put a task at anything from under an hour to over ten hours, so a per-task rate cannot be set against an hourly one.

Buy the data behind this report

This report sums up records we gather ourselves, day after day:

  • 1,432 robot training roles followed, history included

Every role on 100 employer job boards, read each day since 12 Sep 2026: its pay, its place, and the first and last day it was up.

  • 536 apply clicks over 28 days

Which robot training roles people really apply to, by kind of work, pay and place. The clicks happen here, so no one else can count them.

  • 25 sourced industry datasets

Funding, revenue, deals, fleets, deployments and prices across the robot training industry, each record linked to the publication it comes from.

On offer

  • The raw records

Every robot training role we track: title, employer, place, kind of work, pay as stated, and the days it was first and last open.

  • A regular feed

New and closed roles every week or month, as file drops or through the data endpoints.

  • A custom cut

Any figure here by country, city, kind of work, vehicle, employer or date, or your own hiring benchmarked against the market.

Need the people behind this data for your own robots? (you contract them yourself) or (we deliver the robot data).

Investing in robotics, AV or robot-data companies? The Robot hiring radar is these records role by role, every day, as files.

Robot hiring brief: free, once a month

The robot-training job market in figures, on the first weekday of each month: open roles, what opened and closed, who added and who cut, and posted pay by kind of work. To your work email.

How it was measured

Daily reads of the public job boards run by the robot training employers and programs this site follows: the compensation text and employment type of each open role, plus the full description wherever a board provides one. A single database query produces each figure for the window shown, and the live page and every monthly edition run that identical query. The note under each figure gives its base.

Pay unit
Taken from a listing's compensation text: whichever unit appears first ('/hr', 'per task', 'fixed', 'per year'). A number with no unit ('$400') is recorded as unitless and never given one. 'Fixed' means one price for the entire job. Hourly text goes through the same parser the job board uses (lib/pay-band.ts), which keeps only the hourly clause, so a bonus printed next to the rate never becomes the top of a range.
Currency
A '$' sign is taken as US dollars, which is how the boards publish it; a currency code ('EUR 31850 per year') is taken at face value. No currency is ever converted.
Range, single figure, 'up to' or 'from'
A range has two distinct numbers. A single figure has one (a range with equal ends counts here too). 'Up to' states just a ceiling, and 'from' just a floor.
Engagement type
The board's employment-type field, standardised into: contract; freelance or independent contractor; hourly; task-based; part-time; full-time; direct hire. If the field names none of these, or is missing, the type is not stated.
Per-task rate
A per-task amount in US dollars from the compensation text, using the midpoint of any range. A median needs 3 or more roles, and 'up to' amounts are excluded.
Payout schedule and service
Taken from the full description, and only when it is about pay: 'paid weekly via Stripe' qualifies, a weekly team meeting does not.
Output-based pay
The description says pay is per task, submission, video or asset (usually one approved or accepted), or that compensation is output- or task-based.
Described roles
Roles still open when the window closes whose board provides a full description. Every description-based figure gives the number of roles and employers behind it.
Open role
On a given day, a role that has been posted and still shows in the employer's feed.
Window
Live page: the 28 most recent full days (UTC). Edition: a single calendar month (UTC).

Limits of this data

  • Large employers often reuse one description per city, so their template carries extra weight in any share drawn from descriptions.
  • Pay is taken as the board publishes it. Take-home pay after overtime, shift premiums or bonuses is unknown, and an hourly figure on a role paid per video or task is only an estimate.
  • If a description leaves a term out, it counts as not stated, even though the employer may still pay weekly or through a service the listing never names.
  • Engagement types come from each board's own field, and boards fill that field in different ways.
  • Hiring that happens without a public job board is not captured.

Collection and classification of listings are explained on the methodology page. Freshness, completeness and consistency are tested daily in the data quality report.

Monthly editions

The live page spans the 28 most recent full days and updates daily. Every finished month also gets its own edition, locked two days after month end, so a number quoted from it stays fixed.

  • Live page28 most recent full days, rebuilt daily
  • October 2026 edition (you are here)Will lock when the next daily refresh runs
