Frequently asked questions

Who is hiring for self-driving truck jobs?

42 self-driving truck jobs are open today: Aurora Innovation 11, Gatik 11, Kodiak AI 6, Waabi 6, Stack AV 3, Torc Robotics 3, Bot Auto 2, in 20 cities including Dallas, TX, Lancaster, TX, Phoenix, AZ and Pittsburgh, PA. We read each employer's own job board every day.

How much do self-driving truck jobs pay?

Across the 42 open postings, the ones that state an hourly rate put the typical pay at $25–$40 an hour, with a median of $30 (21 distinct rates from 5 employers). Each posting's stated rate is shown beside it in the list above. Advertised pay is not guaranteed earnings.

Do you need a CDL for self-driving truck jobs?

For the driving jobs, yes: Kodiak, Torc, Stack AV, Waabi and Aurora's truck operator postings ask for a Class A commercial license and usually 3 or more years of commercial driving, and Gatik's box-truck postings ask for a CDL, except some local routes that take a regular license. The command center, operations, right-seat and annotation jobs do not drive trucks and ask for a regular license or none.

Can a truck driver work remotely for a self-driving truck company?

A few jobs come close. Kodiak hires Class A drivers as Assisted Autonomy drivers, who steer its trucks through yards and drop-off areas from a remote station with a wheel and pedals, and Aurora's command center staff help the trucks from Coppell, Texas. Both are on site at the company, not from home; Torc's data annotation job is the one done from home.

Where are the jobs?

Mostly in Texas: Kodiak drives out of Lancaster and Kermit, Waabi, Stack AV and Bot Auto out of the Dallas area, Torc out of Fort Worth, and Aurora from Dallas, Midland, Laredo, El Paso and its Coppell command center. Outside Texas, Aurora and Waabi also work in Pittsburgh and Phoenix, Stack AV in Oklahoma City and Phoenix, and Gatik runs routes in Arkansas, Arizona, Nebraska, Michigan, California and Ontario. The list above shows each job's city.
